A: For sure ya'll! The Lone Star Curling Club has been in Austin since 2006! There are also clubs in Dallas/Fort Worth and Houston!
A: We curl at The Pond Hockey Club at 9402 United Drive.
A: We curl on what we call "Arena Ice." This means the ice is shared between hockey, figure skating, and curling. Before we curl, a zamboni goes over the ice, then we add pebble so the rocks glide smoothly.
A: You sign up for one of our Learn to Curl events! These are 2-hour events where we'll teach you the basics of curling and get you playing a game in no time!
A: Nope! We'll teach you everything you need to know! If you're interested in learning about curling before you attend, check out our Curling 101 page.
A: Definitely not! Skates are not allowed on the curling ice and there is no crossover between ice skating and curling. We wear regular tennis shoes on the ice (or special curling shoes) and use teflon sliders to deliver our rocks.
A: Of course! We'll admit, professional curlers can do some crazy contortionism to get low on the ice. You're welcome to try it, but it's not required. To traditionally deliver a stone, you only need to be able to lunge. And if you're not able to do that, we have adaptive ways of throwing so people of all abilities can curl!
A: For sure! Curling is for everyone! We have adaptive ways of throwing the stones so that people of all abilities can curl. If you're unsure, or want to know more information, contact us!
A: Between 38 and 44 pounds.
A: Because of the weight of our rocks, traditional curling works best for someone who weighs at least 100lbs or is around 11 years of age. However, we have adaptive ways of play that is accessible to everyone aged 7 and up.
A: You can find our typical rates on our private events page. These are our standard rates and are dependent on time and number of people in your event. Contact us to learn more info and schedule your event today.
A: Private events work best if you have enough people to play a full game, which is a minimum of 6 individuals. If you have fewer than six, we recommend attending one of our Learn To Curl events, where you can sign up as few or as many as you'd like. We offer $5 off each individual registration for groups of 4 or more.
A: Yes! We call our 2-hour introductory curling classes "Learn To Curls." You can find more information on the Public Classes page.
A: Just yourself! Learn To Curls are public events, so even if you sign up on your own, you'll meet other curling-interested folks and make some new curling besties!
A: We currently offer Learn To Curl events once a month on Saturdays at 1:30pm. Check our Public Classes or Event Registrations page for upcoming events.
A: If you'd like to attend a Learn to Curl event but our current dates and times don't work for you, contact us, and we'll see what we can do!
A: Yes! You can purchase gift certificates in $40 increments to give the gift of curling to someone you love. Upon purchase, we'll send you a printable certificate you can gift with redemption instructions. Gift certificates can be purchased HERE.
A: Join one of our leagues! Our leagues are friendly and open to people of all curling levels and abilities. Check out our current League Offerings.
A: Check out our Event Cancellation/Refund Policy.
A: Curl Austin was a for-profit business that worked with Lone Star Curling Club from September 2021 through May 2022 to bring dedicated curling ice to Austin. During their time in operation, Curl Austin ran all Learn to Curl and private events, while LSCC rented time from them for leagues and bonspiels. As of June 1, 2022, Curl Austin is no longer in business and Lone Star Curling Club has resumed hosting Learn to Curl and private events in addition to our leagues and bonspiels.
A: No, Lone Star Curling Club is a 501(c)3 non-profit and has no employees. We are entirely run by volunteer curling enthusiasts.
